The University of Pennsylvania, located in Philadelphia, was founded in 1740 by Benjamin Franklin. Situated on an urban campus spanning 299 acres, Penn utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. The Andrea Mitchell Center for the Study of Democracy will provide up to 10 undergraduate research fellowships for projects spanning the summer term and following academic year. Eligible to apply, are all full-time undergraduates enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania pursuing research related to democracy, its principles and frameworks, citizenship, or constitutional governance.

Fellowships may be combined with support from other programs. Applicants are encouraged, but not obligated, to conduct research contributing to a Senior Essay or independent study course during the academic year. Supported work can incorporate travel to libraries, archives, fieldwork locations, interviews, or other relevant institutions to advance the project.
