Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship (AES)

The Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship (AES) is a program run by the University of Amsterdam. It offers opportunities to eligible students outside the EU to study the programs available in the institution.

The University of Amsterdam also known as (UvA – Universiteit van Amsterdam) is the oldest and comprehensively largest research-based University in the Netherlands, it is a top-ranked university that offers several courses and research over 40,000 students yearly.

The Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship (AES) is available to eligible applicants outside the EU. There is no specific number of required students to be accepted in each faculty, making the process highly competitive.

The funds provided upon acceptance is 25,000 EUR ($28,546). This will cover expenses related to tuition and the cost of living. This must be applied for only one year of schooling. Any further renewal will be on the basis of satisfactory performance.

Eligibility

  • You must not be a member of the EU
  • You must be a full-time student at the University
  • You must be in the top 10% of your class in the discipline
  • Must provide proof of an English Proficiency Test. The tests accepted by the university accepts are IELTS, TOEFL, etc.

The Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship (AES) is granted to eligible applicants who wish to pursue their Masters at the University

Application Process

The applicant must fill out an external application by the Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship provided on the official website of the University of Amsterdam.

The application must be filled with personal data and accompanied by the required documents, which include:

  • Letter of Reference
  • Certificate of Excellence
  • Copy of Passport
  • Letter of Motivation
  • Description of extracurricular activities
  • Research Questions

Selection and Vetting Process

The Selection and Vetting Process of the Amsterdam Excellence Scholarships (AES) is divided into two(2);

First Process: Applications are collected from the pool of candidates, and the most deserving ones are shortlisted by respective graduate schools for the next stage.

Second Process: Recipients are then selected by the Central Selection Committee from shortlisted candidates.

The applicants are also selected based on their career goals, ambition, and relevance of the program with the future choice of the candidate.

All the scholarship recipients are also expected to :

  • Participate in activities with AES sponsors.
  • Join the extracurricular activities and the AES alumni network.
  • form a strong international network during their period of study, which will be stimulated by an interesting tailor-made extracurricular program.

Note: AES scholarship may be terminated if the successful applicant ‘unreasonably’ refuses to participate in such activities.
